CLIL (Content and Language Integrated learning) is the form to teaching subjects such as science, arts and history to students thought a foreign language. For this it is necessary a teacher who knows a second language like English, but also must be prepared and know the best way to teach both content and language, using the CLIL methodology.
CLIL Methodology is the different ways or forms to teach a subject. But, a correct definition would be this: `a system of methods used in a particular area of study or activity´ (Oxford Dictionary, 2013).
CLIL methodology
is very important for the acquisition
of a second language. The teaching of
content added to a
second language learning leads to
CLIL. Students learning
can´t develop without both parts: since the content and language are interwovennes. CLIL
methodology is the best form where you can use the best teaching practices in
the classroom.
Although when the teacher
explains the unit or the
vocabulary he uses grammar, but in this methodology the teacher focus on subject
content, but not on grammatical structures. A student learns a sentences unknow
the parts and the function of each word, he understands the meaning of the but
not the structure.
This methodology is closely
linked to the use of language
and uses a lot of resources for proper materials acquisition
and development: `Just as in language, a functional perspective would
say that meanings are realized throught words and structures that are in turn
realized through sounds and letters, in coursebooks, syllabus objectives are
realized through a scope and sequence which are in turn realized through a
methodology for language teaching that underlies unit and task desingand text
selection(by Brian Tomlinson, 2013)'.
A CLIL teacher should be
the next question: How do I teach? To answer that question, the teacher must
know the basic concepts of good methodological option, since
looking for a meaningful and personalized learning by students to encourage
their active participation.
Here are the values:
·
`The experiences of students, causing them to be connected with
the new learning.
·
The principle of active participation: to look for a participatory and active involving all children equally in learning.
·
That the work environment is relaxed and free of
stress and the fears that can block learning.
·
That achieves the basic skills
development expressed in the
decrees of minimum teaching requirements (Cristina
Moral Santaella, 2010, 140)´.
